The Nature of Iceland
February 24, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests will host local naturalist David Govatski for a presentation titled “The Nature of Iceland” at Bretzfelder Park. The free program is open to the public and is part of the annual winter Bretzfelder Park Family Educational Series. Govatski served as a Naturalist on the French expedition ship L’Austral in July 2014. This program will cover the flora, fauna, geology and culture of this fascinating and beautiful island. Iceland is considered to be the Land of Fire and Ice and is a paradise for geologists and nature lovers. The island is home to 10 million Atlantic puffins and millions of other seabirds and is considered to be the “Duck Factory” of Europe for the number of waterfowl that breed here. Govatski will explore the country from Surtsey in the south to beautiful Lake Myvatn and Grimsey Island on the Arctic Circle in the north. David will be available to answer questions about visiting Iceland.
